Antique store find

Hello, I found this cuckoo clock that is missing it's weights, pendulum and crown. I've gotten various suggestions for the correct weights to buy and the length of pendulum. I'm hoping for some additional assistance.

The movement is marked GM 1884288 1892176. Regula 25-P. Made in West Germany. A. Schneider Sohne

From what I've found on the internet I believe this was made in either 1982 or 2002?

Are two 275g weights for the movement and 1-320g weight for the music box and dancers sufficient? Or do I have the weights wrong?

Thank you!

Grandma's Clock

Hello. Looking for some information on my grandmother's clock that was given to me. Pretty sure it came over from England in late 1890's when her parents came to the States. My initial research and FB postings inform me this is Black Forest clock from 1830 - 1840 time. It does not run. I can start the pendulum, but it won't stay running. I have the key and tried to wind the left side. It was tight and maybe that is normal, but I only wound it a couple of clicks to be safe. The right side was tighter and I did not try to force it. I manually moved the pendulum back and forth for about 15 minutes and both dial hands moved that amount of time, so that part is working. The pendulum just won't stay running on its own. Does it need more winding?

It is a nice Beha clock in very good condition with some nice inlay work on a simple case. I feel for you and the issue your facing as with so many clocks that are found not running because at one time someone over tightening of the springs. What happens then is that the old oil over time gets thick and sticky on the springs windings. And when they are over tightened the spring windings actually will stick together and the spring loses its function. I have tried to get a small amount of WD40 in the spring barrel to loosen up the old oil and free the spring. In some cases you can’t find an opening in the spring barrel to apply the WD. As far as the clock running in most cases you can’t find shim the case on the clock to find the right angle in which the clock will continue to run. Use some pieces of cardboard to find the right angle. When you do get it running run down the spring all the way until the clock stops.

If it all works out the just give the clock at least 5 winds to run it, good luck 👍🏻

Dumpling eaters

Below are two versions of dumpling eaters which were sold as novelty automaton clocks. They give the appearance of eating a dumpling and chewing it. They definitely were very unique and very rare clocks.

Gary is correct it is new, it will have a Regula movement installed in it and will have / should have another name on it / the movement , stating which company it was made for, it is also called a one day or 30 hour movement , it has small weights , which appear to be 450 gram weights, { The pine cones } they also might be 320 grams, As Gary stated take off the back of clock and upload a photo or simple tell us what you see.

This clock was in a case that was built by George Gill Knox, 1791-1872, a cabinet maker in Vevay, IN. or his father, a Revolutionary War soldier, Robert Knox, 1758 - 1836. It is mounted on the wall so I can't see the back, but there is a card in it that says

No 6

Lorenz Schoenbach in Preukirch

(And then in Old German script)

Lorenz Shoenback

in Preukirch

Be very careful is selling or buying clocks at an Auction House!

For those of you who have thought of selling or buying an antique clock from an auction house beware. I was heartbroken to see what had happened to clocks that I had spent some thirty years collecting and perfecting their restoration and performance.

In reviewing the posted photos on their website I had seen so much damage that was done to the clocks which included broken carvings, bent and or missing linkage along some damage to the mechanical music functions. I had to contact the auction house though out the auction process as to issues with the clocks damage and descriptions inaccuracy’s.

I will do all future sales though eBay or directly with the buyer in which I will have the clocks professionally packed though the UPS store and pass along the exact cost to the buyer. As just one example Fontains auction house charges 10% to the selle…

I got a few from Auction houses a friend in Texas buys for me, soon to find out all the weights and such missing from all the lots were put in milk crates and auctioned off later, we assumed they were missing like many are - by the time we caught on to this new auction house the original parts we were missing got sold off - Weights and Pendulums for Cuckoo's and Vienna's { I did , well, was able to get a hold of a few of those crates , 6 Priority large mail boxes at about 70 pounds each - my friend located the buyer on chance when at the auction house😀

So I very much get what your saying and it breaks my heart as well, I love my clocks and doing restorations, it took 25 years to be free of my ex and a few years to start over with nothing and now doing well once again , so my friend I have seen it all, this is nothing new , but nice to see people on here

I got to add this UPS ships a lot of heavy boxes and I have had a lot of issues with incoming boxes and do not use them sometimes I have no choice on boxes coming in from eBay , me, I pack professionally anyways and I use Fed ex on all my clocks leaving my business , nothing ever late or missing like UPS, its is unsettling having to fight with UPS as to were a Huge Vienna Regulator has gone missing, more then once was enough for me , my stuff coming from overseas DHL - eBay and Fed ex have not let me down, the postal service is another rotten issue, they are rotten on the Space Coast - now with the tariff's it is getting more costly a carving chisel , rare , needing restoration came VIA Fed ex fast and fine, but I got a bill from Fed ex for $7.70 { Trumps New Customs import fee }on a $15 dollar item shipping alone was $25.00 from Japan , so my friends pick your poison things are bad all over - I'll leave it at that

Cheers From The Florida Space Coast
